St. Wilibrordschool,
Lisse,
the Netherlands
Welcome to the homepage of the St. Willibrordschool.
Eventually this page must become a platform for
pupils, teachers and parents of our school. Before it can
become such a platform, students, teachers and parents
have to become familiar with the Internet and, for
many people, first with the computer.
The school.
The St. Willibrordschool is a RC school in Lisse, in the
middle of the famous Bulb District. In March, April and
May the district is at its nicest when the Bulb fields
come out. Hundreds of thousands of tourists from all
over the word come and visit the district because of its
colours. As you might know the bulbs are not
cultivated for their flowers, but for the bulbs
themselves. This is why the flowers are "beheaded" as
soon as they start growing. Many fields are left alone
just for the tourists to see. The heads of the chopped
off flowers are used annually to make flower mosaics.
So does our school. All 300 students from all ages join
in. Every student works at the mosaic for about 10
minutes and at the end of the morning we have a
flower mosaic of at least 20 square metres. Every
flower is stuck into a tempex board with a pin, so that
the boards can be put upright for everybody to see.
This "flower-project" is one of the projects we do every
year. "Ordinary" teaching takes place in year groups
with plenty of attention for each individual.
Lisse.
Lisse is a village in the famous Bulb District in the
Netherlands, Europe. It was founded in 1198. This is
the year when the village was first mentioned in some
papers of the Utrecht Diocese. Since then there have
been many changes and now the village has become a
place that has the aspirations of a city.
What follows here, is a booklet I wrote in Dutch, I'm
afraid, for use in history and geography lessons in the
schools of Lisse, to teach the students more about the
history of the place they live in.
Warning!!!
If you want the booklet to load into your browser with
all the photographs it will take about 20 minutes (28k8)
depending on Internet traffic.
The booklet is an MS OFFICE 97 (Word for Windows
97) file. It is zipped as lisse1.zip, to lisse 7.zip.
